For many years, I wondered why I couldn't bring myself to paint in a "series" format. So many artists I admired had their marketing game together, and it was sometimes discouraging that my stubborn will kept me on a rough road, letting it take me here and there with no real direction other than improving on the last painting.
Something changed a couple years ago when I discovered a new muse...Palo Duro Canyon. It's only seven hours away and it integrates the greens I'm already adept at, with the appeal of red dirt and mesa-like structures. Palo Duro is like a step child in comparison with the Grand Canyon, but I think that's what makes me love it. One of my favorite teachers of the 20th Century, Charles Hawthorne, said "discover beauty where others have not found it," and so I deeply enjoy trying to bring glory to a place oft overlooked.
If this is what 22 years of following my nose leads to, I gladly accept this new course. There are many paintings of Palo Duro now in my studio, and here's a small sampling.
