Why share this with you? As you begin to see my new portrait/figure paintings being posted, you might wonder, "why would I buy paintings with subjects I don't know?" This is a good question to ask, clearly! How could a portrait of a person you've never seen ever mean anything to you?
Truly, this painter can't answer that question for you.
Out of the blue, a man named Joe messaged me on Facebook to purchase "Riky" (above). I didn't ask him why, but I suspect that he looked into the painting with an "active mind" and found things that "belonged to him": a shared humanity, a memory, a connection to antiquity.
Whatever the reason, I'm glad Joe followed his heart. It teaches us so much about the purpose of collecting. Thank you Joe!
